Storyboard

We created our storyboard with real images of what we are planning to film and some images from google images. We made it on Microsoft Publisher and when we had finished, we saved it as a picture and we have all uploaded it onto our blogs. This has a clear context of being rejected. The phone scene that we have decided to include shows him trying to ring an ex-girlfriend and her clearly ignoring it. The scene of Ally in the lecture theatre with images behind him of him and Shannon together happy shows that he is looking back on time of them two together and him now being alone. The dark lighting all around him shows the mise-en-scene of the sad and heartbroken mood of our music video.

We can refer back to our storyboard when we are filming, and we can change things if we need to.

Location shots

House

We chose one of our houses because it had a big open space outside so we had room to film. Also, because it follows a scene in a bedroom of the main character playing guitar, and after we have him walking down the street to show time passing, him coming out of the house creates a narrative.

Walking down the road

We used the street that the house was on, so we could film the character walking from his house down the street without a change of scene. This creates realism. We also liked the appearance of this street better than others because it had nice scenery e.g. tree's and bushes. We used the long street so we could include the jump shots of him being further and further down the street, this suggests time is passing him by.

Lecture Theatre

We used the lecture theatre in school because it had no windows therefore we could get the room very dark to fit the mise-en-scene of our music video. We also had space to use the projector and the big screen for the use of flashbacks behind Ally (which emphasises rejection) and this is the setting we wanted to portray. We had the idea of doing this particular scene because of one of the music videos by 'The Script' called 'Breakeven' which had a simular concept to our song.

Bus Stop

We looked at many bus stops around where we live, we chose this one because it looked the most presentable, it didn't have any graffiti etc. It will also let the audience know that he is travelling somewhere alone.

Sofa scene receiving phone call

We decided to film this scene on a sofa in a house because this again, creates realism of a real girl rejecting a phone call. The was also lots of space around the sofa so we could film from many different angles to see what looks most proffesional.

Park by the pond

We filmed the flashbacks and alone shots of the characters in a park by a pond because it is a romantic setting and this will make it obvious to the audience that they were once together. It also fits with the idea of him coming back here alone with black and white editing to create the feeling of rejection and loneliness.

Video of inspiration

The Script - Breakeven

This particular video gave us many of ideas for our own music video. We thought the black and white editing looking very effective in emphasising the genre and the mood of the song. When he is thinking of the girl he loves, the lighting is very bright and she looks very happy - this gave us the idea of using flashbacks of Ally and the girl he loved but broke his heart. We used bright lighting for these flashbacks too.
The lead singer of The Script, Danny O'Donoghue is sat in a dark room by himself with a projector shining the light on his face. This influenced us to do cuts through out our music video of Ally in the lecture theatre by himself. We used the same mise-en-scene of the dark room. Behind him is a video of his and Shannon's happy memories so it makes it clear he is sad about not being with her.

Mood Board

This mood board represents our music video because it has many of the genre conventions that an alternative rock video would include.

It has a picture of a guitar and someone playing the piano because instruments are a large part of this genre, also the guitar links with the first scene of our music video that shows the main character playing a guitar. The picture of an urban city at night because we found from our research, that many alternative rock videos are filmed in urban areas. It has a picture of a pond which is where we are going to film the couple being together and him returning to the same place that they used to go. We chose a pond as the setting because it represents love and romance. There is a picture of a man sitting alone on a bench and a man standing alone by a sunset, this is because this represents the loneliness and heartbreak that our main character is feeling. I have included a picture of the band 'The Script' because their music videos gave us many ideas towards our music video and they are also in the same genre as our song. The black and white picture of the couple represents mise-en-scene and also emphasises that our character wants to be loved by someone. Finally, I have included the image of the word 'faith' because towards the end of the song, the lyrics suggest that he will continue to have faith to find someone to love him 'I will find a way'.

Overall, my mood board shows many interpretations of our music video and portrays them in a way that is specific to our genre.
